jettas are hot

"Jettas make girls look hot"
Behind me, a conversation about a single-40 year old aunt who drives a jetta ensued. Perfect.

Today was the first day, well not the first-first, but one of few days in quite awhile where my feet carried me to campus. It's starting to feel like Spring. The birds are getting chatty and the sun is showing it's face once again. So for the first time in awhile it felt like my old routine could resume and it felt good. Especially because I was wearing my running shoes. Which I know, running shoes with jeans....I know, I know. Don't look down on me because I value comfort. I really need to get some comfortable shoes that aren't running shoes. My moccasins hardly classify as shoes, the black ones give my blisters and tennis-shoes totally throw off an outfit.

But back to the real reason I was prompted to start this blog posting [despite the fact it's three am and i have a paper due @ 11:30 tomorrow morning...] The "Jettas make girls look hot" story. What really does make a girl hot? What makes a girl beautiful? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right? I think I believe that. No, I know I believe that. I might think someone is beautiful, and you may disagree.

But there is something. This something that some people have and others don't. A something that's recognized by most, if not all. There have been studies revealing that facial symmetry makes the visage more appealing, even to babies. It's empirically backed, and seems plausible. Does it really just come down to symmetry though?

I have two different colored eyelashes. Yes, it's true. One eye is rimmed with black, the other with white. My eyebrows have followed suit as well. I'd like to think that it's unique and fun but definitely not symmetrical. My point here is that few people have faces that are symmetrical- some of which are still really attractive. I could drop some names here, but I will refrain, for fear they may be offended that I'm pointing out their asymmetries. So what is it though? What is that thing? Is it the spicy jetta? Or perhaps it's the Oldsmobile Intrigues with black rims? I'm curious to know. Curious to know if I have it. Or don't have it. Maybe to some I do have "it", whatever "it" is. But to some beholders it might not be there.
I hope some day there is someone who thinks I've got it. Even if no one else thinks so. Even if I don't drive a Jetta.

  1. well i'm glad that i don't have a non-asymmetrical face...

i think you've got "it." whatever "it" is. and yeah you don't need a jetta, just your jeans, tennis shoes (chacos may be better) and a t-shirt. the truly simple and relaxed version that i think all people should trust.

rock on jen. cause you've got "it"

  2. well said Danielle! Jen, I really like your writings...is it because I'm your Mom or that when I read your thoughts it makes me think, laugh, feel and relate? I think that is what makes a good writer - that you can make people think, laugh feel and ponder....I've been telling you since you were a young child that you should be a writer and I hope someday you submit some of your random writings to a magazine - or really go for the brass ring and start a book of short stories...SOMETHING...you have the gift - use it!
Sending you love and from your MOM who loves you with all her heart, I think you've got "it"!!!
